Hooligan: A History of Respectable Fears by Geoffrey Pearson
This book was quoted at length in this week’s issue of The Economist. I think many people picked up on it, but there is every reason to mention it again. It’s a shame that some exceptional books need an exceptional moment in history to be noticed. (Hyman Minsky’s work is another recent example). I envy Bagehot for being across the road from one of the most outstanding (independent) lending libraries in the world: London Library.
